Homemade Pink Valentine Macaron Recipe

Today we have the perfect Valentine’s Day treat to make for your little peanuts or a special someone in your life. We are talking macarons! There is just something so perfect about these beautiful little treats and they are perfect for love day! We don’t know if it’s because they are a French treat or if its their delicate texture and color… but we are smitten! We have wanted to try our hand at making homemade macarons for a long time now but knew they can be a bit tricky to make so we enlisted the help of our friend, Erin ¬†Rupp, with Dolce Bella by Erin to teach us the proper way and a few tricks to making macarons! Last week we spent some time in the kitchen with Erin and whipped up our own batch of delicious macarons! Our sweet friend Jacque Lynn Photography snapped a few pictures of the process to help show the steps!

 

INGREDIENTS:
– 1/2 cup almond flour
– 1 cup powdered sugar
– 2 egg whites
– 1/4 cup sugar
– vanilla
Рfood coloring of choice 

 

 

Preheat oven to 350* and place parchment or sil-pat on baking sheet.

Whisk almond flour and powdered sugar together and sift, set aside.

 

 

In the bowl of a stand mixer with a whip attachment or a hand mixer, beat on medium speed until soft speaks form and then add sugar. Continue to beat until shiny peeks form. Beat in vanilla and food coloring of choice.

 

 

Using a rubber spatula carefully fold in the almond flour/powdered sugar mixture until incorporated.

 

 

Place mixture in a pastry bag that has a plain round tip that is approximately 1/2″. Pipe mounts 1-1/2″ in diameter onto your prepared baking sheets. Space approximately 1 inch apart.

 

* TIP – to get perfectly sized circles trace a round cookie cutter on the parchment paper to create circle outlines. This will make it really easy to fill the circles and make sure that you have matching ends.

 

Sprinkle on colored sugar or garnishments of your choice before placing into the oven.

 

 

Place one sheet at a time on the top rack of the oven with a sheet pan on the bottom rack, so the bottoms of your macarons do not burn. Bake until tops and bottoms are firm and golden. About 10-13 minutes. Once they make the little “feet” you know they are done!

 

 

Take them out of the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes while you prepare your filling. Fill with your favorite butter cream, ganache, jam or jelly. Enjoy!!
