Who says baby showers have to involve bottles, diapers, and binkies? Not us! Today’s modern mamas want a stylish party that celebrates their bun in the oven but focuses as much on adult fun as it does on kiddos. Take this boho-chic fête for mama-to-be JaNee Arhets: Inspired by cool bohemian style and featuring an indigo-blue color palette, this bash is all about baby but with a festive, grownup vibe you and your girlfriends will love.
Forget anything too formal or stuffy—this shower is refined but still fun, organic, and fuss-free. And don’t be afraid to think outside the gender box: blue isn’t just for boys, especially in a non-traditional, tie-dyed tone.
“Whenever I design an event, I am inspired by nature,” says floral and event designer Amber Dickson of Amber Reverie. “Early spring boasts some of the most beautiful, delicate blooms in interesting colors like muted lavender, deep plum, and blues that can be hard to find in other seasons. Special spring flowers like blue muscari, lilac, sweet pea and full purple-backed magnolia blossoms inspired the look of this baby shower. I envisioned something a bit bohemian, gender neutral, and sophisticated enough to celebrate mom, while still bringing in elements of childlike whimsy.”
A low, long table sets the scene for a relaxed brunch, lunch, or dinner, and is the perfect match for comfy pillow seating, such as this array of vintage indigo pillows by Mae Woven. This keeps the celebration casually elegant and allows guests to lounge around the table while they eat and offered advice to the mom-to-be.
Leather mats by Gathre placed under the table create a more plush seating area and help catch spills and crumbs. As for the placesettings, no fancy china needed here—simple white, everyday dishes do the trick. Bottle-blue glassware made from recycled glass reflect the indigo color palette, while wooden utensils lend to the boho vibe and complement the wooden tabletop décor items by Little Sapling Toys.
For a naturally elegant focal point, Amber Dickson brought the great outdoors in by hanging large blooming magnolia branches above the table. “This worked especially well with a low table and evoked the feeling of picnicking beneath a beautiful, blossoming tree,” she says. “Hanging branches above a table is one of my favorite, easy ways to bring nature inside and create an atmosphere for an event. Whether blossoming, covered in leaves or vines, or even bare and twiggy, I love the sculptural impact of hanging branches.”
Beneath the magnolia branches, she emphasized the length of the table with scattered olive branches on a simple hand-woven runner and three low floral arrangements in aged clay garden pots. She added height to the setting and a warm glow with tall taper candles in custom-made wood block candleholders by Little Sapling Toys, which matched the brand’s other wooden items arranged throughout the tabletop.
When it comes to decor, why not choose items that double as gifts for the mom of the hour? Little Sapling Toys’ darling animal-themed wooden teethers make perfect (and unexpected) napkin holders, plus a must-have present for mom. Additional modern wooden toys—blocks, stackers, and rattles—add to the overall table setting and make thoughtful take-aways.
